Baka d'busk

SIGURD KJELDGAARD
CO-OWNER & MANAGER • JAH IZAKAYA & SAKE BAR
One of my favourite places to hang out. Often in the bar with a few small dishes and lots of wine. Their veggie-kitchen always delivers on balance, flavors and presentation. On top of that they have created one of the best restaurant atmospheres, you will sense it from the moment you enter their place. Tip: try the cheese platter.

Corsa Pizza

SIGURD KJELDGAARD
CO-OWNER & MANAGER • JAH IZAKAYA & SAKE BAR
I am almost always in the mood for pizza and Corsa delivers on that front. I eat their margherita for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On top of that they show most pro-cycling races! When the Giro d'Italia starts I will definitely watch some of the stages there with plenty of beautiful crust within range. Tip: check out their wine shelves. Really good wine for amazing prices.

Den Kinesiske Købmand

SIGURD KJELDGAARD
CO-OWNER & MANAGER • JAH IZAKAYA & SAKE BAR
Walking into Den Kinesiske Købmand is always a small adventure. Take a ride in all their exciting condiments, noodles, veggies, frozen stuff, dried stuff, colourful stuff etc. Always makes me wanna cook something new and learn about new stuff. Tip: last time I was there I bought Gochujang and I have used it in sooooo many things since.

Sømunken

SIGURD KJELDGAARD
CO-OWNER & MANAGER • JAH IZAKAYA & SAKE BAR
Right next to Baka, you will find this little fishmonger. Christoffer runs this little gem with a tight focus on sustainable fishing that follows the seasons. Always ready for a chat on what's good right now and always high quality seafood. Super happy to have Sømunken close to my home.

Baan Thai Isarn

QASIM KHAN
CHEF & OWNER • DONDA
Thai food made as it should be! Small family owned restaurant, terrible acoustics with not the most interesting decor, but that doesn’t matter when you try their food! I will go for the fried pork, broccoli and basil. Always order Thai food, Thai spicy!

I’m a sucker for all types of Asian food. The first thing I need to try is Tiger mom. I still haven’t had the chance to go but so this is definitely a top priority.

It has the vibe of some of the beautifully designed, yet relaxed, craft beer bars I remember from NYC. To Øl has created a great environment and I can't wait to stop in for a beer when things are back to normal.

Mikkeller & Friends

CORY SMITH
FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER
This one is nostalgic. M&F was the first beer bar I visited when here on vacation in 2013. When I descend the steps there, it always takes me back. Beyond that, it's just a wonderfully cozy little spot to while away an hour or two with friends over a couple of beers.

Chef Beau Clugston takes all he's learned while cooking at a list of amazing restaurants and infuses that into the seafood dishes of his youth. The menu is both inventive and approachable. It's my second favorite place in Copenhagen.

I previously worked for Broaden & Build, the brewery connected to Amass. Because of that, I got to know chef Matt Orlando very well. I have so much respect and admiration for what he's doing with the menu and can't wait to visit and see what they've been up to.

Without a doubt, the first one is Sanchez. It's my most visited, and most loved restaurant since moving here in 2019. Carnitas tacos, washed down with one of their signature micheladas, are first up.

Safari is a casual dining spot. Sometimes I can't understand how they can serve so good for those prices, there is always a good vibe and I can eat their romesco and bread everyday!

Le Saint Jacques

MADS BATTEFELD
CHEF & OWNER • SUSHI ANABA
Le Saint Jacques is a new favourite of mine. Nothing fancy at all, just high end brasserie style. Great wines and classic French and Mediterranean food with old school technique. In the spring/summer time they have a perfect lunch spot with sun and no tourists.

Jah Izakaya

MADS BATTEFELD
CHEF & OWNER • SUSHI ANABA
I really like the vibe at Jah Izakaya. They are always fully booked and normally we just make a walk in if possible, we always have there chicken karage, agedashi tofu, grilled squid and sashimi - an ice cold beer and a whisky highball. It takes away some of the home sick for Japan

Møntergade

MADS BATTEFELD
CHEF & OWNER • SUSHI ANABA
Møntergade is like being home, even though it’s nothing like my parents’ place. The service and awareness, plus the great lunch and dinner menu are for me the perfect home feeling. A small tip is to order a glass of sherry for your smørrebrød at lunch. If the fried herring with morels à la Crème and fried egg is on the menu, it’s a must.

Den Vandrette

QASIM KHAN

This place needs no introduction if your a hip young, nature wine drinking, Norm-core looking person from Copenhagen. I hope that doesn’t scare anyone away because their food and wines are amazing! I can’t wait to sit outside and stuff my belly with nature wine and khachapuri.

For me, this is the wine bar with the best food in Copenhagen. Their wines, especially the ones from Loire are really special. I look forward to sitting in the sun with a good bottle and some class charcuterie.

Hos Fischer

MADS BATTEFELD
CHEF & OWNER • SUSHI ANABA
Hos Fischer is one of my favorite places in Copenhagen, but to be honest, I’m definitely not visiting the place enough. David is a good friend of mine and I love the simplicity of the place and the great products he is using. I’m always having his cacio e pepe and tiramisu.

I’ll go there for the Cacio e Pepe. It’s a fantastic dish where the ingredients really shine through. Good pasta. Two great cheeses. Pepper. That’s it. It’s an oasis in Østerbro and a place where I can take the family, have some good pasta, good red wine and just relax.

On the opposite side side of my home we have the Uki family. There I'm going to have a boat full of sashimi while having a conversation with Daisuke who has just prepared my food, then I'm going to wash that down with a shot of cognac in their kitchen with Momma Uki, who is 75 year old beautiful Japanese woman that is fitter that most half her age.

This restaurant always delivers great range of Cantonese food.. Located in the once sketchy part of Vesterbro where I also grew up. A childhood memory of mine was never convincing my parents to take me there. It was a long awaited experience once I got to eat there!

This Cantonese family restaurant has existed for 25 years plus and is run by Ying and Simon. It is just at my doorstep and I've been coming there for almost 20 years with my family. Most of our kids’ birthdays has been celebrated there. I'll be having their ribs, fried rice with pork, Sio Bao, an array of their dim sum, chicken feet and a Tsing Tao to wash it down.

I have not been to Anaba yet, but it is on top of my list to try. A lot of people are saying that this is probably the next Michelin star in town. Mads is extremely dedicated, and when he says his ambition is to become the best sushi restaurant in Europe, I believe him.

Qasim & Kasper are keeping it real. Just getting recognised for Qasims really good food at absolute fair prices. They basically opened up at the eve of the pandemic with no help from anybody. And I’d rather enjoy Qasim calling people out on social media which can be quite enterainment and a breath of fresh air. Everything I've had there is amazing. So let's see what is on the menu.

Donda is the closest thing to going to Mexico right now. The place is really intimate and the staff are always super present. The wine and drinks are amazing and the ceviche is good. The spiciness of Donda’s food goes perfectly with orange wines.

Rouge Oysters

JONATHAN SORIANO
OWNER • VINSUPERNATUREL
This is more a bar, run by Morten and Birk, but you can actually make a 3 course meal out of their bar selection. It is close to work and our shop. I'm going to start with 2 different oysters, then I'm going to have one of their premium seafood tins supplied by Grøndals, probably spicy sardines with some baguette, and then for the prize their crab toast to finish. Hit that 3 course and you'll be well off for a few drinks after.
